Teen Fatally Shot in Florida City Neighborhood; Investigation Underway

Homestead, FL – A Florida City neighborhood was the site of a tragic incident Saturday night when 13-year-old Johvan Taylor was fatally shot.

The shooting occurred around 10:20 p.m. near Northwest 13th Street and Sixth Avenue. Florida City and Homestead police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered the teen in the backyard of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers administered life-saving measures until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics arrived. Johvan was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead.

An entire block has been cordoned off as investigators work to determine what led to the shooting.

A dark-colored vehicle at the scene has drawn the attention of law enforcement, though its connection to the crime remains unclear. Authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage, including Ring camera recordings, that captured the sound of gunfire.

The Miami-Dade Police Homicide Bureau has taken over the investigation, treating the case as a top priority.

A reward of $5,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest in connection with Johvan’s death.
