Born on June 29, 1977, Baena’s life was marked by a passion for storytelling and innovative filmmaking. After graduating from NYU’s Film School, he began his career as a production assistant for Robert Zemeckis and later became an assistant editor for David O. Russell.

Baena made his directorial debut with the zombie comedy Life After Beth (2014) and went on to direct several films, including Joshy (2016), The Little Hours (2017), Horse Girl (2020), and Spin Me Round (2022). His collaborations with his wife, actress Aubrey Plaza, and actress Alison Brie brought a distinctive voice and perspective to his projects.
