The community is reeling from the sudden loss of Captain Cody Pierce, a dedicated Calusa Waterkeeper Captain and passionate advocate for the region’s waterways. Pierce, known as “the watchdog of our waters,” passed away at the age of 36, leaving behind a legacy of environmental stewardship and community inspiration.
Calusa Waterkeeper, the environmental organization where Pierce worked, remembered him as the “heart and soul” of their mission. Executive Director Connie Ramos-Williams described Pierce as a unique and passionate individual whose dedication to the waterways was unparalleled.
Pierce’s impact extended far beyond the environmental community, touching the lives of countless individuals who shared his vision for a cleaner, healthier world. His ability to connect with people and inspire action will be deeply missed.
