A tragic single-vehicle crash on Southwest Baya Drive in Lake City, Florida, resulted in the deaths of a local couple on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred near Southeast Perry Avenue at approximately 3:16 p.m., prompting a swift response from authorities.
According to the Lake City Police Department, the investigation revealed that the couple’s vehicle, traveling eastbound on Southwest Baya Drive, appeared to lose control, veering onto the sidewalk before crashing into a utility pole.
The victims have been identified as 51-year-old Charles Harrison Fails, the driver, and his wife, 49-year-old Tracy Carol Fails, who was the sole passenger in the vehicle.
The Lake City Police Department extended its gratitude to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Lake City Fire Department, and Columbia County Emergency Medical Services for their quick response and assistance during the investigation.
Lake City, the county seat of Columbia County, has a population of 12,329, according to the 2020 census.
